Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center
The VICC is a matrix cancer center that integrates all of Vanderbilt's cancer-related expertise and resources to alleviate cancer death and suffering through pioneering research, innovative patient care and evidence-based prevention, education and community outreach initiatives. It became an NCI-designated Cancer Center in 1995 and acquired comprehensive status in 2001. VICC is an inclusive, collaborative, interdisciplinary, cancer research community with over 300 members dedicated to advancing discoveries in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for both adult and pediatric cancers. VICC members belong to one of eight research programs—Breast Cancer, Cancer Cell Biology, Cancer Epidemiology, Cancer Health Outcomes and Control, Gastrointestinal Cancer, Genome Maintenance, Host-Tumor Interactions, and Translational Research and Interventional Oncology. The VICC holds two NCI-funded SPORE programs in breast and GI cancer, and currently receives ~$150 million in research funding from public and private sources, with ~$70 million from the NCI (ranking it 9th among NCI-sponsored Cancer Centers).
VICC remains at the forefront of fostering innovative research and provides a supportive environment for the translation of scientific advancements and achievements and promoting a culture in which the highest standards of scientific rigor, reproducibility, and responsible conduct of research are advanced. VICC has established a highly effective infrastructure and resources to facilitate basic, translational, clinical, and population-based research that will be of considerable benefit to this investigator. VICC has 11 Cancer Center Support Grant-supported Shared Resources services that include animal and human imaging, bioanalytics and proteomics, cell imaging, chemical synthesis and high-throughput screening, data science, flow cytometry, genome editing, genomic sciences, immunophenotyping, survey and biospecimen and translational pathology. Moreover, investigators have access to more than 80 shared research resource facilities across Vanderbilt’s campus. Vanderbilt has made numerous strategic investments in large-scale trans-institutional research programs and shared resources, totaling over $150M in the last 20 years. These facilities offer cutting-edge scientific services, enabling access to equipment, advanced techniques, and specialized expertise for all Vanderbilt investigators and collaborators
