Profile
Dr. Milne's career has been spent pursuing the chemistry, biology, and metabolism of oxidized lipid mediators. I have nearly 25 years of experience in the field and have significant expertise in the areas of lipid metabolism, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and analytical method development for the quantification of oxidized lipid mediators. The Eicosanoid Core (EC), which I have directed since 2008, is one of the only shared-resource facilities in the world specifically dedicated to the measurement of oxidized lipid mediators using mass spectrometry. This facility was established at VUMC in the late 1980s by Drs. Jack Roberts and Jason Morrow, who were exploring the utility of urinary prostaglandin (PG) metabolites as biomarkers in human health and disease. F2-isoprostanes (F2-IsoPs), well-studied biomarkers of redox-induced lipid peroxidation, were discovered in 1990 as part of the EC.
